"Rough ashlar, a block of freestone as brought from the quarry.
When hammer-dressed it is known as common ashlar." [1913 Webster]
 
So here's the question: Based upon the above definition,
when you take your Common Gavel and you hammer-dress your rough ashlar,
what is it now called?
