Random Building Thoughts - 2021-03-11

 -------------- SUBS --------------

There are very few true defenses one can successfully employ in dealing effectively with Ruffians. One such defensive strategy requires ample provisions of superficially deep substitutes that shall both momentarily placate and permanently redirect their attention away from the very thing they pursue.

A person who recognizes, understands, accepts and properly employs this cannot rightfully be labeled, "Ruffian".

  -------------- COACH'S CHALLENGE --------------

QUIZ TIME and SCAVENGER HUNT for your weekend pleasure.

The following was inserted into Ritual as a "Charge to the Candidate" sometime after the Premier Grand Lodge came into being.

"In the state, you are to be a quiet and peaceful citizen, true to your government, and just to your country; you are not to countenance disloyalty or rebellion, but patiently submit to legal authority, and conform with cheerfulness to the government of the country in which you live. ..."

QUESTION: When did the earliest version of this occur in Ritual?

No. I do not know when. I have one book that has it and that book was printed in 1863 (General Ahiman Rezon, by Daniel Sickels). When did the earliest version of this occur?

 -------------- MYTH --------------

"If myth is translated into literal fact, then myth is a lie. But if you read it as a reflection of the world inside you, then it's true. Myth is the penultimate truth."
-- Joseph Campbell, from a 1986 Houston Chronicle interview by Leslie Sowers: "Cultures Linked by Man's Ideas, Mythologist Says."

There ya have it! Straight from Joe himself. That's been my experience endlessly! Myth! It separates Masters from Ruffians every time! WORD to my Brothers!

 -------------- KNOW IT! --------------

A father before he died said to his son: “This is a watch your grandfather gave me, and it’s more than 200 years old. But before I give it to you, go to the watch shop on the first street, and tell him I want to sell it, and see how much he offers you.“

He went, and then came back to his father, and said, “The watchmaker offered $5 because it’s old.“ He said to him: “Go to the coffee shop.“ He went and then came back, and said: “He offered $5 father.“

“Go to the museum and show them that watch.“ He went then came back, and said to his father “They offered me $1 million for this piece.“

The father said: “I wanted to let you know that the right place values you in the right way. Don’t find yourself in the wrong place and get angry if you’re not valued. Those that know your value are those who appreciate you, don’t stay in a place where nobody sees your value.“

Know your worth.

  Well here they are.
About 60 Brothers gathered at Babylon Lodge
on Saturday March 8th for the
Building Better Builders Workshop with Bf. John Nagy.
A great time had by all
and additional light spread in the Suffolk District...
mission accomplished.
 Watch out for these Brothers,
they'll soon be spreading some
uncommon masonic education in your lodge.
