Random Building Thoughts - 2022-12-05

-------------- RHETORIC --------------

Speaking strictly off the cuff,
t
his was NOT at all window dressing!
The pattern was beginning to be seen by all.
It was the naked truth!
It was also a healthy blend
of well-spun conclusions.

Furthermore, no matter how much
they needled the witness,
they couldn't pin anything on him.

He
was definitely a cut above the rest.

However,
it looked like the entire suit was a stitch up.

The Judge needed to put a collar on it,
but the defense had dressed it all up to suit him
even though there was not a thread of evidence.

By now, no one could pull the wool over the eyes of the jury.
It was clear that the witness
was a cut above the rest!
He may just have to cut the cloth
depending on how it's hanging?
It was sheer brilliance on his part!

The defendant wanted to bleed not guilty,
but he was now embroidered
into the fabric of another suit.
The poor fellow was all hemmed up
and he just needed to let it out a bit.

The suit was also clearly transparent
that the prosecutor had a vested interest!
And he wanted to press other issues,
but he had already tied one on.

SIDE COMMENT:

Even though the quality of these puns
are just sew-sew...
SEW WHAT!
They still have me in stitches.

Sew, hat's off to you!

-------------- HUMOR --------------

<SNICKER>

Me: So, Brother, you read the book. How soon do you think a Brother should read it?

Brother
: Oh, not until they are at least a Fellow Craft?
Me: Why so?

Brother
: Well, you don't want to overwhelm an Apprentice with this kind of Light.
Me: Why not?

Brother
: They need to finish working on subduing their Passions and Circumscribing their desires and all first.
Me: <cough> You do realize what you are saying here?

Brother
: What's that?
Me: That cuts out about 99.9% of the existing Craft.

-------------- COACH'S CHALLENGE --------------

The Candidates are restless once more.
It seems that they are displeased
with what is being demanded of them to progress.
The requirements to memorize and give back
are simply not enough in their eyes.

One of them said he was not provided any further training
in the use of the 24 inch gauge.

Another complained that the common gavel instruction
was near non-existent.

One after another complained
that all the important things pointed toward
by the first degree ritual are not required
by the Lodge to be done by the candidates to progress.

You agree with them and decide to provide them
the necessary hoops as prescribed by ritual to jump through.

You run all this by the lodge officers
and they unanimously support your decision
and task you with the following:

YOUR TASKS:

1) Identify at least 10 things/area
that the Apprentice Ritual directs candidates to Perfect
to make themselves better men.

2) Write up a brief summery of each of the tasks,
clearly stating the end in mind for each
and what is required to achieve it.

3) Produce a viable and repeatable curriculum
around these 10 things/areas, structuring tasks
that will cultivate improvement with the candidates
when done fully.

You accept the tasks, role up your sleeves, and begin.

What do you come up with?

-------------- REALITY 1 --------------

The Irony is:
Men Join the Craft
because they truly DON'T like
the way things are.

We must pass through the darkness, to reach the light."

-------------- MYTH --------------

"The first stage of the mythological journey
––which we have designated the "call to adventure"––
signifies that destiny has summoned the hero
and transferred his spiritual center of gravity
from within the pale of society to a zone unknown.
This fateful region of both treasure
and danger may be variously represented:
as a distant land, a forest, a kingdom underground,
beneath the waves or above the sky,
a secret island, a lofty mountaintop,
or profound dream state;
but it is always a place of strangely fluid
and polymorphous beings,
unimaginable torments,
superhuman deeds,
and impossible delights."
Joseph Campbell,
"The Hero with a Thousand Faces" p.48

-------------- RELIGIONS --------------

Ve·dan·ta - A Hindu philosophy based on the doctrine of the Upanishads, esp. in its monistic form.

Ve·dan·ta (v-dänt, -dn-) - n. Hinduism*

The system of philosophy that further develops the implications in the Upanishads that all reality is a single principle, Brahman, and teaches that the believer's goal is to transcend the limitations of self-identity and realize one's unity with Brahman.

Vedanta - (from the Sanskrit for `end of the Veda') one of six orthodox philosophical systems or viewpoints rooted in the Upanishads as opposed to Mimamsa which relies on the Vedas and Brahmanas.

*Hindooism, Hinduism - a body of religious and philosophical beliefs and cultural practices native to India and based on a caste system; it is characterized by a belief in reincarnation, by a belief in a supreme being of many forms and natures, by the view that opposing theories are aspects of one eternal truth, and by a desire for liberation from earthly evils.

When you begin to see that...
(A) historical facts
...and the...
(B) allegorical history and supporting organizational system
simply do not match,
...then you might just be ready
for what Masonry truly has to offer.

Do you believe that you're ready?
